Essay on Emergency and Humanitarian Action of WHO towards Ethiopia

Since the last four decades, Ethiopia is consistently experiencing severe drought and famine which has resulted in food insecurity for the nation. Many parts of Ethiopia have been experiencing a severe shortage of food and water for livestock and human. Various international organizations have come to the aid of this country and the aid has been in millions of dollars. An estimated $78 million were raised by W.H.O for the health issues in Ethiopia and more than thousands of lives alone in Addis Ababa were saved by this effort of W.H.O. The core efforts of WHO has been to provide technical support.

But they have also provided some sort of funds for drugs and other medicine for Ethiopia’s federal ministry of health to assess the overall health status of the country’s population, evaluating and prioritizing health issues, disease prevention and certain controlling activities which can thus help health workers for all their emergency related problems and for thorough monitoring of health-related problem.

The primary aim of the United Nations is the formation of a healthy and productive civil society which can eradicate social and economic problems. To fulfil those objectives, there needs to be the formation of a civil society which is healthy and which can fulfill the basic needs of the unprivileged and underdeveloped.

From the perspective of the humanitarian reforms of the UNO, it represents a positive attempt which can address several gaps related to assisting and improving the humanitarian response of the society. The World Health Organization, in this regard, has made various reforms and efforts in fulfilling these humanitarian objectives of the United Nations. However, there are some objectives which have not been achieved by W.H.O and have barely been accepted, even within the system of the UN. Even for this reason, such program has been a standard issue for UNO, specifically for quick solutions. The W.H.O, along with UN, has worked for several programs which focus on uplifting the civil society and focus on eradicating the social evils.

The humanitarian and assistance program led by W.H.O is highly accepted in this regard because it helps in the fulfilment of objectives and certain criteria which has been designed for saving lives, eliminating human suffering and maintaining and protecting of human dignity after natural disasters which could help in preparation and strengthening oneself in preparation for tough situations and also for providing aid and foreign assistance to the unprivileged member of the society.
