What is deforestation?
Deforestation is the cutting or over-harvesting of trees for lumber or pulp, to clear land for agriculture, ranching, construction or other human activities. Rainforests are the most essential parts for many people and animals life. In these massive lush greenery many animals, insects, plants and people reside, many of which do not have an alternative homeland. Due to the introduction of industrialization, the increase of deforestation has risen rapidly, due to which many animals and other living creatures have gone extinct or are at the verge of going extinct.
In order to control deforestation:-
Farming: New methods are being developed to farm more food crops on less land, for example, high-yield hybrid crops, greenhouse, autonomous building gardens and hydroponics. This small farm land depends heavily on a lot of chemical inputs to maintain important yields. In cyclic agriculture, cattle are grazed on farm land that is resting and rejuvenating. This type of agriculture actually increases the fertility of the soil. Selective over farming can also increase the nutrients by releasing such nutrients from the previously insert subsoil.
Forest management: Numerous people, who are aware of the side effect caused by deforestation, are trying to make the corporate giants along with other people aware of the issues they are causing or are being caused. Deforestation can cause environmental damage, sometime can cause societies collapse. In Tonga, paramount rulers developed policies designed to prevent conflicts between short-term gains from converting forest to farmland and long-term problems forest loss would cause. However, in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries in Tokugawa, Japan the shoguns planned a highly professional system long-term planning to halt or even reverse deforestation, by substituting timber by other products and use land more efficiently that had been farmed for many centuries. In the sixteenth century Germany landowners also developed silviculture to deal with the problem of deforestation. However, these policies tend to be limited to environments with good rainfall, no dry season and very young soils through volcanism or glaciations.
Reforestation: In People’s Republic of China, where large scale destruction of forests has occurred the government has required that every able-bodied citizen between the ages of 11 and 60 plant three to five trees per year. However, this strategy is no longer required today since 12 March of every year in China is the Planting Holiday. The government claims that at least 1billion trees have been planted in China every year since 1982. On the other hand, in the west, increase demand in wood related products are causing deforestation to accelerate.
